In electrical system A.C. inductive loads consume active power and also reactive power. This reactive power is needed to generate magnetic field for inductive loads.

DETUNED APFC SYSTEM FOR HARMONIC LOADS

Automatic detuned filter bank is used where harmonic distribution is more. Capacitor step with blocking reactor, forms resonant circuits tuned to frequency below dominant harmonic i.e. 5th, 3rd. This avoids harmonic amplification. It also removes certain amount of harmonic currents. Detuned filters are manufactured having frequency 130 Hz, 141 Hz and 189 Hz.
